PADI WRECK DIVER

Discover the mysteries of the depth with the PADI Wreck Diver Course. 

The ocean floor is covered with wrecks of ships, planes and all kinds of lost artefacts, historical sites and sunken history of wars, stories, civilizations and mysteries; some sunken purposely and some by accident, some with historical meaning, some dating back centuries and some as recent as a year or two.

The PADI Wreck Diver Course is one of the most exciting and rewarding specialties you can do. You never quite know what you will find inside some of these wrecks, and often divers travel all around the world to dive wrecks with historical values purely for a view into the past and personal satisfaction.

PADI DEEP DIVER

Duration: 2 – 3 Days

Interested in the PADI Deep Diver course? As divers, our curiosity often gets the better of us; we always want to see what lurks under the next overhang, inside the next cave or within the mysterious depths of the oceans.

There is always something else to see, whether a historical wreck at 34metres, a wall dropping from 12 metres to 38 metres, or a specific creature residing in the depths. With the PADI Deep diver course you will learn how to safely experiencing diving to depths of up to 40 metres and enjoy a whole different world experienced by only a handful of others.

PADI DRYSUIT DIVER

Duration: 2 – 3 Days

Diving in cold water conditions shouldn’t scare you off, some of the greatest diving experiences occur in the colder waters around the world, experiences such as diving in the crystal clear water of Silfra in Iceland, getting in the water with orcas in Norway, and diving with seals in our own backyard in the Atlantic ocean off the coast of Cape Town. PADI Dry Suit Diver makes scuba diving in cold water all the more enjoyable.

Diving in a dry suit gives you the added advantage of remaining dry underneath your exposure suit, allowing you to stay warmer for longer and in turn extending your bottom time.

PADI PEAK PERFORMANCE

Duration: 2 Days

An important step towards becoming a better diver is by perfecting your buoyancy. For the best divers, excellent buoyancy control comes almost as a second nature, and you can see it in the way they effortlessly move through the water, or hover in one spot motionlessly for what seems like an eternity.

By participating in the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy course, you will begin to master the skills and techniques many of these divers use. Improving your buoyancy allows you to get much more satisfaction out of a dive than normal, it calms you down and allows you to be much more comfortable while diving. Good buoyancy control also improves air consumption.

PADI DIGITAL UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAPHY

Duration: 2 Days

Nothing captures an incredible moment like a perfectly taken picture, and this is even truer underwater where another world is waiting to be discovered. It is difficult to take the perfect photo without proper training, and often your hard work comes out all blurry, not doing justice to what you saw.

With the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Course, you can learn to take the perfect picture, simply by improving simple things like your buoyancy, positioning and camera settings. This is a fun course for all to enjoy and really impress your family and friends with your new found abilities to capture the perfect photo of a small nudibranch, an inquisitive octopus, or fast moving seal.

PADI EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST

Duration: 2 Days

In an ideal world PADI Equipment Specialist course should be sold as a package as soon as you buy your own personal scuba diving gear, but we are not living in a perfect world, and that’s why here at Cape Town Dive Centre we got you covered by presenting you with an opportunity to take part in the equipment specialist course.

We are always curious to know how something works, and scuba diving gear is no different. When you join us for the PADI Equipment Specialist course you will be able to learn how your equipment work, how to take care of it, do basic repairs on your equipment, and doing routine services and adjustments on your gear.

With all of this knowledge you will become much more comfortable with your gear, more confident when purchasing gear, and prevent missing dives because of a faulty regulator or seal.

PADI UNDERWATER NATURALIST

Duration: 2 Days

Cost: R 3 800

As soon as you break the water and start your descent you start to notice the magnificent and diverse array of underwater life, different sizes, shapes and colours of fish surround you, all kinds plants and corals spring up from below you, and crazy critters populate the ocean floor, but instead of just seeing it you want to know what each species are called, why 2 certain animals hang out together, why clown fish and anemones are such a good buddy team, and what makes this alien world tick.

After taking part in the PADI Underwater Naturalist course you will be able to answer many of these questions and with your new-found knowledge you will notice other smaller details you have never paid attention to before, simply because you never gave any thought about them, you will start to understand why even diving the same dive site twice can be 2 different experiences altogether.

PADI UNDERWATER NAVIGATOR

Duration: 2 Days

Everybody hates being lost, even more so underwater because it is not our natural environment, and being lost can escalate to bigger problems. By doing the PADI Underwater Navigator you can become your very own personal GPS, and find your way in even the most testing conditions.

You will certainly become an integral part of the dive group with this skill and everybody wants to follow someone who knows where they are going. Though a very challenging course, the rewards the navigation course provides you with surely makes up for it.

Navigation is one of the toughest things to do underwater, and that’s why during this course you will learn to sharpen your skills by observing the world around you more thoroughly, be more vigilant to what is happening and how to use your compass accurately.

Minimum Age: 12 Years

PADI PROJECT AWARE SPECIALITY

Duration: 1 Day

Cost: R1 500

We are all able to enjoy diving because of one reason; the aquatic environment and everything in it, from the smallest micro-organism to the largest whale; these are why we started in the first place.

Project AWARE is a non-profit organisation with the objective of keeping the marine environment as healthy as possible through awareness programs, conservation projects and diver donations. The PADI Project AWARE Specialist course is available to anybody interested in protecting and being aware of the most pressing issues affecting our marine ecosystems.

Requirements:

  • No qualifications required. (open to anyone with an interest)
  • Minimum Age: 10 Years

PADI SEARCH & RECOVERY

Duration: 2 Days

Cost: R 3 800

During the PADI Search and Recovery course you be required to complete 4 open water dives, during which you will learn the four search patterns in detail using either compass or natural navigation, and which method to use when, you will also be expected to search for small items using the most suitable search method.

You will learn to recover multiple different sized and shaped objects, using a lift bag to bring heavy objects back to the surface, or using other techniques for smaller objects. After the skills training you will be required to plan a search and recovery operation by gathering various information and details about the lost object, location it was lost, how it was lost, variables affecting the search, and the most effective way to search and recover the item, given the details you have obtained.

Minimum Age: 12 Years

PADI ENRICHED AIR DIVER

Duration: 1 Day

Cost: R 2 000

Do you want to increase your bottom time while diving to be able to see that one extra special creature, plant or point of interest? Then why not consider signing up for the PADI Enriched Air Course, also known as Nitrox.

During this course you will be introduced to dive with a 22% to 40% increased amount of oxygen, in order to prolong your no-stop time. You will learn how to analyse your gas mixture, determine your maximum operating depth, set your dive computer to the correct blend and how to work out your no stop time for given depths with given blends.

Minimum Age: 12 Years

PADI SIDEMOUNT​

Duration: 2 Days

Cost: R 4 500

Sidemount diving has an incredible array of benefits, when it comes to diving.

With one confined water session, and three open water dives – we help you configure the sidemount system.

  • You will learn how to assemble and configure your sidemount set-up.
  • You will learn how to properly adjust your trim and weight system – so that you are perfectly balanced in the water. 
  • You will learn to manage your gas by switching second stages (when using two cylinders.)
  • You will learn to follow sidemount safety procedures and to respond correctly to potential problems when sidemount diving.

Minimum Age: 15 Years
